Palace of Fine Arts

The Palace of Fine Arts has been around since the the 1915 Pan-Pacific Exposition. Its one of the few remaining buildings from Exposition. I've always been intrigued by its beauty and history. It’s truly one of my favorite places in San Francisco. My friends and I used to come here at night and drink after climbing one of the side vases.

When I'm doing my paintings I always like to use something that is part of the location. When my husband Bradford and my dear friend Jen were touring the park I decided to use the water from the lake in the painting.

It was a busy day at the Palace, there were tourists every where! The length between the edge and the water is about a foot and a half, so if I tried to get the water from the edge I would have no doubt fallen in! So we decided to go to the back of the lake, (in the painting it’s between the two trees on the right). I snuck under the tree and was just able to reach and put the water into my tube hopefully undetected. It was quite exciting!

In the painting all of the water is painted using the water from the lake.

On of my dear friends Kerry K. passed away the month I was painting this. We use to go there and hang out when we were younger. It was one of our favorite places to spend together. I put her on the bench in the painting so that she could enjoy it for ever. I miss you Kerry, I hope you enjoy the view!
